Bates College Social Environment Part (2)

POSTED BY admin on Jan 22 under Bates College, College, Education

bates collegeStudents appreciate using their fine-tuned writing and computing skills. There is a certain sense of relaxation in students here, who are laid-back, comfortable in their skin and free to be what they want. There’s also a spiritual thread across the curriculum and the students want to apply moral principles to what they learn.

They examine their purpose in life. Students embrace the ideal of freedom and equality. Bates was founded by the Abolitionists prior to the Civil War and students of color and international students are quite comfortable here. The majority of undergraduates are service oriented and volunteer in the local community and other sections of the country and world.

Over half of the students rank in the top 10% of their high school class, and the rest rank in the top quarter of the class. This is an SAT optional college and only 50% of students submit their scores. Professors form very close relationships with the students.
