Beloit College Physical Environment
“You don’t voluntarily move to Wisconsin” says a Beloit student who comes from California, however, this is where she felt compelled to come. The college is on the Wisconsin-Illinois line and is accessible from the airports of Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison.
The city of Beloit is rather quiet, recalling its earlier paper and pulp historical industry now transitioning to artistic and niche industry. The campus is located in a residential neighborhood near the town center.
Beloit College was designed by a group of Yale graduates and hence it has a north-eastern look to its architecture. Many students live in “theme” houses, around the perimeter of campus, in old Victorian and Colonial homes, and form their own small communities bound by common interests.
